Mariana needed eight cabinets for instrumentation and valve control in its lithium-processing system. The panels connect pressure transmitters and other field instruments, carry commands to valves, and bring signals back to the main controls over a network.

We designed and built them using Siemens ET 200SP remote input/output (I/O) hardware and PROFINET. Stainless steel NEMA 4X enclosures were specified for covered outdoor service.

Same hardware, different instrument tags

All eight panels had the same I/O counts, but each connected a different set of tagged instruments and valves. We kept the hardware and layout common, including the output-relay interfaces and field terminals.

During the drawing review, we checked the I/O lists for each panel and prepared separate drawing sets with the corresponding signal tags. Each field wiring list identifies which instrument or valve belongs at each connection, so the installation team has a reference for that specific cabinet.

The hardware layout repeats; each panel has its own signal tags and field wiring drawings.

Checking the cabinets against their drawings

The factory records identify the cabinet serial number and drawing revision. They record wiring and ground-bond checks, powered voltage measurements, markings, and I/O operation, along with the enclosure, door, latch, and gasket inspections.

One panel's report records 318 wires verified through continuity and tug checks, power-up, or functional testing. Two digital-input wires were swapped at the module. We corrected the connections, retested them, and recorded a passing result.

The handoff includes panel-specific circuit diagrams, terminal information, and field wiring lists. The test records link the recorded checks and corrections to the corresponding cabinet and drawing revision.

“Having Blitzpanel handle the panel design, drawings, and builds took a lot off our plate. They rapidly adapted to our project needs, generated clean drawings for us to reference during installation, and delivered the panels on time.”
